An Emerging Frontier for Going Deeper

Psychedelics represent a promising new frontier for healing. Studies are increasingly showing that psychedelic therapies can lead to breakthrough mental health outcomes. These extraordinary medicines can support the deep work of investigating important questions. What’s our connection to ourselves? To our purpose? To others? To nature? What causes our suffering? What is our place in the universe?

After championing the “gateway drugs” of the mindfulness and mental wellbeing movement, Bridge Builders Collaborative has committed to exploring pathways for going deeper. Psychedelics are a truly powerful tool to facilitate expanding awareness and altering suffering. Knowing this, we are approaching the potential of psychedelics with integrity. Given the enormity of the need, and the rare opportunity of the moment, we have a responsibility to do this right. This includes recognizing that the use of psychedelics brings unique considerations regarding ethics.

In our exploration of psychedelics, the first thing we’ve done is to not make an investment. Instead, I’ve signed the North Star Ethics Pledge. We see the pledge as aligning with our mission of how we create global change. We would like to see this pledge become central to the way people engage in the psychedelics field. At Bridge Builders, we have conversations with entrepreneurs about integrity — for them as individuals and in the design of the companies they build. In the psychedelic field these conversations will be essential, and I will encourage entrepreneurs to sign the North Star Pledge. We hope other investors will do the same. Together we can help make integrity a real priority for the whole industry on a global basis. We can go deeper. We can do this right.
